Home charging, planned properly.
A charger next to the panel can be a different job from one across a finished garage. An EV purchase does not automatically require a 200 amp service upgrade.
Capacity before equipment
An electrician can evaluate the service and charging demand. Lower charging settings or suitable load management may be alternatives to a service upgrade.
Hardwired or plug-in
Compare the equipment instructions, connection method, and required protection. An existing dryer outlet should not be assumed suitable for regular EV charging.
The route to your parking space
Circuit length, wall access, outdoor mounting, and detached garages affect materials and labor.
Compare the full installation scope
The charger model, circuit route, connection method, panel capacity, and permit scope affect installed cost. Separate charger hardware from electrical installation in the quote.
Request an itemized written estimate. Clarify permits, utility work, access, cleanup, and approval for changes to the agreed scope.
Prepare for the first conversation
Have the vehicle and charger model, parking location, and future second-vehicle plans ready.
Jacksonville’s Building Inspection Division handles electrical permitting and inspection questions. Confirm the authority for the property address and ask who is responsible for the permit and final inspection.
